One of the most meaningful ways to convince a young person to
avoid participating in behavior that is detrimental and harmful
is to provide a role model for that person to emulate. Our
youth, teenagers and young adults need more people to look up to
and admire. They need contemporaries that have gone before them
and walked in their shoes. They need heroes that are as good off
the courts and ball fields as they are on them. They need
friends and advisors that they can trust, admire and look up to.
The Malt Beverage Education Corporation is committed to
sponsoring "Mentors" all over Kentucky to help educate our youth
and "lead by example." And, the Malt Beverage Education
Corporation is committed to working with organizations all over
the state to identify these potential "Mentors" and committed to
helping develop these potential "Mentors" become instruments of
good will.
Every year, a select group of people from all over Kentucky
will be chosen from applications to receive partial scholarship
at all regional universities. In return for these partial
scholarships, these students will agree to become "Mentors"
throughout their specific regions of the state. They will be
required to visit elementary, middle, and high school classes to
give presentations on the hazards associated with under-age
drinking. They will be required to participate in area events
that will educate youth on decision-making and responsible
behavior. They will be required to work with other initiatives
in their respective regions that will promote worthwhile youth
activities.
Most of all, though, they will be required to live their
lives as an example for our children, youth, and teenagers to
follow.
For more information on how you can become a "Mentor," or how
you can recommend a potential "Mentor," please contact the Malt
Beverage Education Corporation. Together, we can make a
